Well, ain’t nothin’ fancy, but let me tell ya ’bout them starch side dishes. You know, the stuff ya eat ‘longside your meat, if ya got meat. Or maybe just a big ol’ pile of veggies if that’s your thing. Anyways, starch, it’s the stuff that fills ya up, like potatoes or noodles.
Now, I ain’t no chef, but I know a thing or two about makin’ good food. Potatoes, them’s a good start. Ya can boil ’em, mash ’em, fry ’em up – anyway ya like. My favorite? Mashed potatoes with a big ol’ dollop of butter. And don’t forget the salt! Salt makes everything taste better, don’t it?
- Boiled potatoes – Just peel ’em, chop ’em, and boil ’til they’re soft. Easy peasy.
- Mashed potatoes – Boil ’em, then mash ’em up with butter and milk. Creamy and good.
- Fried potatoes – Chop ’em up and fry ’em in a pan with some oil. Get ’em nice and crispy.
Then there’s bread. Good ol’ bread. Ya can sop up gravy with it, make a sandwich, or just eat it plain. White bread, wheat bread, whatever ya like. I like mine soft, not all them fancy crusty kinds.
And rice. Rice is good too. Boil it up in some water, and it’s ready to go. You can add some butter or salt if ya want, make it taste a bit better. Rice is good with just about anythin’.
Now, some folks like them noodles, what they call pasta. Spaghetti, macaroni, all them fancy names. Boil ’em up, put some sauce on ’em, and you got yourself a meal. My grandkids love that stuff. Me, I’m more of a potato person, but noodles are alright too.
Then there’s them other things, like grits. Never really understood grits myself, but some folks swear by ’em. And quinoa, what’s that all about? Tastes like birdseed to me. But hey, to each their own, right?
Don’t forget them cucumbers, sliced up real thin with a bit of salt and dill. That’s a nice side dish, especially in the summer when it’s hot. Keeps ya cool. And asparagus, roasted up in the oven. Fancy, but good. And carrots, glazed with ranch dressing. Kids love that stuff. Sweet and tangy.
Whatever ya choose, just make sure it fills ya up and tastes good. That’s what matters, right? Good food don’t have to be fancy. Just good and honest. So next time you’re thinkin’ ’bout what to eat with your meal, don’t forget them starch side dishes. They’ll do ya right.
And remember, don’t be afraid to experiment. Try new things. Maybe you’ll find somethin’ ya like that ya never thought ya would. That’s how ya learn, by tryin’ new stuff. So go on, get cookin’! And don’t forget the salt!
