Alright, let me tell ya ’bout this Avalon Seafood place, ya know? It’s down there on Ocean Drive, been there since, what, 1977? Yep, a long, long time. They say it’s “better by a mile,” and I reckon they ain’t lyin’.
First off, they got all sorts of seafood. Shrimp, big ones, small ones, they got ’em all. And crab? Oh honey, they got crabmeat, the real stuff, not that fakey stuff you see sometimes. They saute it with scallops, too. Sounds fancy, don’t it? But it’s just good eatin’, plain and simple.
They also got somethin’ called “chilled jumbo wild caught shrimp.” Now, that’s a mouthful, ain’t it? But what it means is they take these big ol’ shrimp, put ’em on ice, and give ya some of that tangy cocktail sauce. You know, the red stuff? And a lemon wedge, to make it look pretty, I guess. They even give ya mustard sauce, if you like that sort of thing.
- They got shrimp.
- They got crabmeat.
- They got scallops.
- They even got salads, homemade ones, they say.
And lemme tell ya, that crabmeat ain’t just any crabmeat. It’s “jumbo lump,” which means it’s the good stuff, the big chunks. They put it in a creamy sauce, rich and thick. I ain’t sure what all’s in it, but it tastes mighty fine.
Now, I ain’t one for fancy eatin’, you know? Give me good, plain food, and I’m happy. But this Avalon Seafood, they got somethin’ special. It’s fresh, it’s tasty, and it’s just… good. You know what I mean?
They got a place on Facebook, too. “Avalon Seafood and Produce Market,” they call it. Got a bunch of likes, so I guess other folks like it too. They’re only open in the summer, though, from the weekend before Memorial Day to a couple weekends after Labor Day. So ya gotta go then, or you’ll miss out.
They’re located on 29th and Ocean Drive, in Avalon. You can’t miss it. Just look for the place with the seafood. And the produce, I guess. They sell that too. But I go there for the seafood. That’s the good stuff.
They got a website, too. *. I ain’t never been on it myself, mind you. I’m too old for that computer stuff. But my grandson showed me, and it looks like they got all their information there. Prices, menus, all that fancy stuff.
If you’re down in Avalon, and you’re lookin’ for some good seafood, go on and check ’em out. You won’t be disappointed. They got all the classics, and then some. And the people are nice, too. Always a plus in my book.
So there you have it. Avalon Seafood. Good food, good people, good times. What more could ya ask for?
I heard folks talkin’ ‘bout their salads, sayin’ they’re homemade. I ain’t never tried ’em myself, but if they’re as good as the seafood, then they must be somethin’ special. Maybe next time I’ll give ’em a try.
But for now, I’ll stick to my shrimp and crab. That’s what I like, and that’s what Avalon Seafood does best, in my opinion. So go on down there and see for yourself. You won’t regret it.
