Alright, let’s talk about these Indian frozen dinners, you know, the ones you just pop in the microwave when you’re too tired to cook. I’ve seen a bunch of ’em at the store, all colorful and whatnot.
First off, there’s this Saffron Road one. Says it’s got chicken tikka masala. Now, I ain’t no fancy chef, but I know good chicken when I taste it. This one? It’s alright. Not like my grandma used to make, mind you, but it’ll do in a pinch. The sauce is kinda tangy, a little sweet, you know? And the chicken, well, it’s chicken. Can’t complain too much.
Then there’s this Trader Joe’s brand. They got a whole mess of ’em. Chicken tikka masala again, butter chicken, and some spinach thing with cheese, palak paneer they call it. Sounds fancy, huh? Well, the butter chicken is my favorite. It’s creamy and rich, just the way I like it. The rice is good too, nice and fluffy. Don’t care much for that spinach stuff, though. Too green for me.
- Chicken Tikka Masala: Pretty good, like I said. Good for when you’re in a hurry.
- Butter Chicken: Now, this is the good stuff. Creamy, tasty, fills you right up.
- Palak Paneer: Not for me. Too much spinach. But hey, maybe you’ll like it.
I also saw some Maya Kaimal thing, organic it says. Little bags of chickpeas and potatoes. Microwave meals, they call ’em. I tried the one with the potatoes, it was okay. A bit spicy, but not too bad. Good for a quick lunch, I guess. Not much food in them little bags though.
Now, some folks say you can freeze all sorts of Indian food. Like that dal stuff, and the meat curries. Even rice! I tried freezing some rice once, it got all mushy. Maybe I did it wrong. They say you can’t freeze potatoes, they get all crumbly. I don’t know, I ain’t tried it. Too much trouble for this old lady.
Speaking of healthy, they say that Saffron Road brand is pretty good for you. But you gotta watch out for the salt, they say. Too much salt ain’t good for nobody, especially us old folks. And then there’s this Amy’s company, they make all sorts of organic stuff too. Frozen dinners, you know. I haven’t tried any of their Indian food, but maybe I will someday.
So, are these frozen dinners any good? Well, they ain’t like home-cooked, that’s for sure. But they’re convenient, and some of them taste pretty darn good. Especially that butter chicken. If you’re busy and don’t have time to cook, they’re a good option. Just make sure you read the labels, see how much salt and stuff is in ’em. And don’t expect it to taste like your grandma’s cooking, ’cause it won’t.
One thing I do like is that you can keep them in the freezer for a long time. You never know when you’re gonna be too tired to cook, right? So, I always keep a few of those frozen dinners on hand, just in case. It’s better than going to bed hungry, that’s for sure.
And let me tell you, these frozen dinners are a whole lot better than they used to be. Back in the day, frozen food tasted like cardboard. But now, they got all sorts of fancy ingredients and spices. It’s almost like eating at a restaurant, but without the fancy prices and the hassle of going out. And you don’t have to do the dishes, which is a big plus in my book.
So, there you have it. My two cents on these Indian frozen dinners. They ain’t perfect, but they’ll do in a pinch. Just try a few different brands and see which ones you like. And don’t forget the butter chicken, that’s the best one.
