Well, let me tell ya ’bout this Mayflower Seafood Restaurant, the one they call a “restaurant,” though I just call it a place to eat. I heard folks talkin’ about their menu, so I figured I’d give ya the lowdown, the way I see it, plain and simple.
First off, they got all sorts of seafood. You know, fish and stuff from the water. Lots and lots of fish, I reckon. Shrimp, they call it. Little bitty things, but they taste alright fried up. They got them big crab legs too, the ones you gotta crack open. Messy business, but some folks like ’em.
- Fried fish, that’s what I like best. Crispy and good.
- Them shrimp things, they’re alright too.
- Crab legs, if you like makin’ a mess.
Now, they got this menu, a big piece of paper with all the food they sell written on it. I ain’t good at readin’ all them fancy words, but I can pick out the important stuff, you know, the food. They got prices too, how much money they want for each thing. Seems a bit pricey to me, but I guess that’s how it is these days.
I heard tell they got somethin’ called “specials,” that means they got somethin’ different today, somethin’ not on the regular menu. Could be a different kind of fish, or maybe they cooked it a special way. I ain’t never been one for fancy cookin’. Just give me some fried fish and I’m happy.
They also got somethin’ called appetizers, little bits of food you eat before the main meal. I don’t see the point, myself. Just fills ya up before ya get to the good stuff. But they got things like… what they call ‘em… oh yeah, hushpuppies. Little balls of fried cornmeal. They’re alright, I guess. And somethin’ called calamari, which is squid, I think. I ain’t never tried it. Sounds kinda weird to me.
For the main course, like I said, they got all sorts of seafood. Fried, grilled, baked… all kinds of ways to cook it. They got somethin’ called flounder, which is a flat fish. Tastes pretty good fried. And they got catfish, which is what we used to catch down by the creek. Always liked catfish. They also got salmon, but that’s a bit too fancy for me. And then there’s them lobster things. Big red creatures. Never had one myself, but I hear they’re tasty.
And don’t forget the sides! That’s the stuff you eat with your fish. French fries, of course. Everybody loves french fries. And coleslaw, that’s shredded cabbage with some kinda sauce. I like coleslaw. And they got hushpuppies, like I said before. And sometimes they got mashed potatoes, which are good with gravy. I like gravy.
Now, if you got room left after all that, they got desserts too. Sweet stuff, you know. Pies and cakes and things like that. They got apple pie, which is always a good choice. And pecan pie, if you like nuts. And lemon meringue pie, which is kinda tart, but good. I ain’t much of a dessert person myself, but sometimes a little somethin’ sweet hits the spot.
So, that’s the Mayflower Seafood Restaurant menu, as best as I can tell ya. They got a lot of food, that’s for sure. Fish and shrimp and crab and all sorts of other things. And it ain’t cheap, but I guess that’s what you expect these days. If you like seafood, you might like it there. Me? I’m just happy with a plate of fried fish and some coleslaw. That’s all I need.
Oh, and I almost forgot! People are always talkin’ about what time they’re open. I hear they open up around 11 in the mornin’ and stay open till 9 at night. So you got plenty of time to go get yourself some seafood, if that’s what you’re hankerin’ for. And they’re in Concord, North Carolina, or somethin’ like that. And sometimes in Darlington too, wherever that is.
And I saw some folks takin’ pictures of their food. Don’t know why they do that, but I guess it’s somethin’ young folks do these days. Anyway, that’s all I got to say about this Mayflower place. Go eat there if you want, or don’t. Makes no difference to me.
