Alright, listen up, y’all. We gonna make somethin’ called a “crockpot pierogi casserole.” Don’t you go gettin’ all fancy on me, it’s just a bunch of stuff thrown together in that there slow cooker thingy. You know, the one you plug in and it cooks all day? Yeah, that one.
First thing’s first, you gotta get yourself some of them pierogies. The frozen kind is just fine, no need to get all worked up makin’ ’em from scratch. I ain’t got time for that, and neither do you, probably. Just dump them frozen pierogies right into the bottom of the crockpot. Don’t worry none about thawin’ ’em out, they’ll cook just fine. Heck, that’s the whole point of the crockpot, ain’t it? Easy peasy.
Now, you need some meat. I like to use that kielbasa stuff. You know, the sausage? Cut it up into pieces, not too big, not too small. Just right. And then throw that in there on top of the pierogies. Don’t be shy, load it up! We ain’t skimpin’ here.
- Pierogies – frozen, don’t you go gettin’ fancy
- Kielbasa – cut up, you know, like sausage
- Broth – chicken broth is good, or whatever you got
- Cheese – gotta have cheese, lots of it!
- Maybe some onions – if you like ’em, I ain’t gonna force ya
Okay, next up is the broth. Chicken broth works real good. Just pour it in, ’bout three cups or so. Enough to cover them pierogies and sausage, but not so much that it’s swimmin’ in there. You want it saucy, not soupy, you hear?
Now comes the good part – the cheese! And don’t you be stingy with it neither. I like to use that shredded cheddar cheese, but you can use whatever kind you like. Just dump a whole bunch of it on top of everything. The more the merrier, I always say. Cheese makes everything better, ain’t that the truth?
Some folks like to add onions. If you’re one of them, go ahead and chop up an onion and throw it in there too. I ain’t a big onion person myself, but you do what you like. It’s your casserole, not mine.
Once you got everything in the crockpot, put the lid on and let it cook. Low and slow is the way to go. Cook it for, I don’t know, four hours, maybe six? Just until them pierogies are nice and soft and the cheese is all melted and bubbly. You’ll know when it’s done. It’ll smell real good, that’s how you know.
And that’s all there is to it. See? I told you it was easy. Now you got yourself a nice, hot meal. Perfect for a cold day, or any day, really. It’s good eatin’, that’s for sure. And the best part? You ain’t gotta slave away in the kitchen all day. That crockpot does all the work for ya.
You can serve it up with a side of, I don’t know, whatever you got. Some folks like a salad, but I ain’t never been much for rabbit food. Maybe some bread, to sop up all that cheesy goodness. Or just eat it straight out of the crockpot, I ain’t gonna judge. Just don’t burn your mouth, that’s all.
So there you have it, my foolproof recipe for crockpot pierogi casserole. It ain’t fancy, but it’s good and filling. And that’s all that matters, right? Now go on and make it, and let me know what you think. But don’t come cryin’ to me if you mess it up, ‘cause I told you exactly what to do.
This here recipe, it’s a good one. You can change it up, too, if you want. Add some different veggies, maybe some peppers or somethin’. Or use a different kind of sausage. It’s all up to you. That’s what’s so great about cookin’ at home, you can do whatever you want! Just don’t forget the cheese. You always gotta have cheese.
And don’t be afraid to experiment. That’s how you learn to cook good. Just try different things, and see what you like. And don’t worry if it doesn’t turn out perfect the first time. Even I mess up sometimes. But most of the time, it turns out pretty darn good. And that’s good enough for me, and it should be good enough for you too. Now git cookin’!
