Alright, listen up, y’all. I’m gonna tell ya how to make them green beans, the kind they got at that Texas Roadhouse place. Yeah, the ones everyone goes crazy for. I ain’t no fancy chef, mind you, just a plain ol’ cook, but I figured this out, and it’s good, real good. You don’t need no fancy stuff neither, just good ol’ ingredients.
First off, you gotta get yourself some green beans. Not them canned ones, no sir. Get the fresh ones, the ones that snap when you break ‘em. You need a whole pound of ‘em. Make sure you wash ‘em good, get all that dirt off. You don’t wanna be eatin’ dirt, do ya?
Then, you need some bacon. Bacon makes everything better, that’s what I always say. Get about a quarter cup of it, chopped up nice and small. Fry it up ‘til it’s crispy, you know, the way it should be. Don’t burn it though, just get it nice and brown and crispy.
- 1 pound fresh green beans, gotta be fresh!
- 1/4 cup chopped bacon, make it crispy!
- 1/4 cup chopped onion, don’t cry now
- 2 cloves garlic, the more the merrier I say
Next up, you need an onion. Just a regular ol’ onion, chopped up same as the bacon, about a quarter cup. And some garlic, too. Couple of cloves, chopped up small. Garlic makes it taste real good, gives it a kick. You don’t wanna be stingy with the garlic, now.
Now, you can do this in a pot on the stove, or you can use one of them slow cookers, them crockpots. I like the crockpot myself, just set it and forget it, that’s my motto. But if you’re in a hurry, the stove works just fine.
If you’re using a pot, just throw everything in there – the green beans, the bacon, the onion, the garlic. Add some water, just enough to cover the beans. And some butter, too, a good chunk of it, maybe two or three tablespoons. Butter makes it rich, you know. Then you just let it simmer, that means cook it slow and low, until the beans are tender. That’ll take a while, maybe an hour or so, maybe more. Just keep checkin’ on ‘em, makin’ sure they don’t stick to the bottom.
If you’re using the crockpot, it’s even easier. Just throw everything in there, same as before, beans, bacon, onion, garlic, water, and butter. Put the lid on, set it on low, and let it cook all day. Six hours, eight hours, it don’t matter much. The longer it cooks, the better it gets. Them beans get all soft and flavorful, and the bacon, well, the bacon just makes it heavenly.
Now, some folks like to add other stuff, like chicken broth instead of water, or a little bit of sugar. I say, you do what you like. This is just the basic recipe, the way I make it. You can add whatever you want, make it your own. That’s what cooking is all about, making it your own.
And that’s it, y’all. That’s how you make them Texas Roadhouse green beans, or somethin’ pretty close to it. It ain’t rocket science, just good ol’ home cooking. Your family will love it, I guarantee it. And if they don’t, well, more for you, right?
So go on, get yourself to the store, get them ingredients, and get cookin’. You won’t be sorry. And don’t forget the cornbread, gotta have cornbread with them green beans. Now, I gotta go, got some more cookin’ to do.
One last thing, some folks say a little bit of pepper helps too, just a pinch, don’t overdo it. And don’t you go and forget the salt neither, everything needs a little salt, even green beans.
Alright, I’m done now, for real this time. Go on, git!
