Okay, so today I decided to dive deep into what it takes to be a Food and Beverage Manager. I mean, I’ve seen those folks running around in restaurants and hotels, but what do they actually do all day? Time to find out!

First, I started by, you know, Googling “food and beverage manager job description.” Lots of stuff popped up, but it all felt kinda…corporate and boring. So I decided to tweak my search a bit.
I tried different phrases like “day in the life of a food and beverage manager” and “food and beverage manager responsibilities.” This got me closer to what I was looking for – real-world examples, not just a list of bullet points.
My “Research” Process (aka Lots of Reading)
- I spent a good hour just reading through various job postings. Some were super detailed, others were pretty vague.
- I found a few blog posts and articles written by actual F&B managers. Those were gold! They talked about the good, the bad, and the ugly (like dealing with hangry customers).
- I even stumbled upon a couple of forums where people were asking questions about the job. Reading the responses from experienced managers was super helpful.
After all that reading, I started to piece together a picture of what this job really entails. It’s WAY more than just making sure people get their food, that is for sure!
I created my basic job description, using simple words, of a Food and Beverage Manager:
- Make more money for the food and beverage department.
- Supervise all of the staffs.
- Response to customer complaints.
- Hire and train new employees.
- Make work schedules.
- Order all of the supplies the kitchen and front staff needs.
- Make sure the restaurant is operating on budget.
- Plan menus with the chef.
Then today, I figured, I am actually making a job description, so, I looked at various website, see what they written, and combined them together. And here are my final result.
