Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about these here “dessert candles.” Folks these days, they got a candle for just about everything! Don’t get me wrong, a candle’s a candle, but these fancy ones, they look good enough to eat! Heard tell they call ’em dessert candles ’cause they look like cakes and pies and all sorts of sweet stuff.
Now, I ain’t no expert, but I seen some pictures, and they do look mighty purdy. All sorts of colors and shapes, like little works of art. They got ones that look like cupcakes with frosting swirls, and ones that look like slices of pie with the crust all golden brown. Makes you wanna take a bite, I tell ya! But don’t you go doin’ that now, it’s still just wax, not somethin’ you wanna be eatin’.
What Kind of Wax They Use, Anyways?
Heard some folks sayin’ soy wax is the best. Said it burns cleaner and lasts longer. Don’t know much about that myself, back in my day, a candle was just a candle, you lit it and it burned, that’s all there was to it. But I guess these fancy folks, they like things just so. If they say soy wax is good, then maybe it is. I ain’t gonna argue with ’em. They probably got their reasons, city folk always do.
- Soy wax is supposed to be better for you, they say.
- And it burns longer, that’s what I heard.
- Plus, it smells nice, even when it ain’t burning.
Where You Get ‘Em, These Dessert Candles?
Now, where you find these things, that’s the question. Seems like you can get just about anything online these days. Heard tell of a place called Amazon, they got everything under the sun. And another one called Etsy, that’s where folks sell handmade stuff. Probably find all sorts of dessert candles there. You just gotta search for ’em, type in “dessert candles” and see what pops up. It’s like magic, I tell ya, this internet thing.
But you gotta be careful, mind you. Not everything online is what it seems. Make sure you’re buyin’ from a good seller, someone with good reviews. Don’t want to get stuck with some cheap imitation that don’t even smell good. And don’t you go spendin’ all your hard-earned money on these things. A regular old candle will do just fine, you know. But if you want somethin’ fancy, somethin’ pretty, then these dessert candles might be just the ticket. They’d make a nice gift, I reckon. For a birthday, or maybe a holiday. Or just because.
The Old Days and Candles
Now, back in my day, we didn’t have all these fancy candles. We had plain old taper candles. They were long and skinny, and mostly white. We used ’em for light, you see, not for show. We didn’t have electric lights like you do now. When it got dark, we lit the candles. And when we went to bed, we blew ’em out. That’s just the way it was. It’s funny to think how far we’ve come. From plain old tapers to candles that look like desserts. It’s a whole different world, I tell ya.
And another thing, we didn’t buy our candles from no fancy online stores. We made ’em ourselves, or we got ’em from the general store. They were cheap and practical, not like these dessert candles. These new ones, they’re more for decoration than anything else. But I guess that’s alright. People like what they like. And if they want candles that look like cupcakes, well, more power to ‘em.
Making Your Own, Maybe?
Now, I heard tell you can even make these dessert candles yourself. There are places that sell candle-making supplies, all sorts of scents and colors and containers. You can melt the wax, add the scent and color, and pour it into molds. Sounds like a lot of work to me, but some folks enjoy that kind of thing. They like makin’ things with their own hands. And I guess it would be kinda fun to make a candle that looks like your favorite dessert. A big ol’ chocolate cake candle, maybe. Or a strawberry pie candle. The possibilities are endless, I suppose. Just remember what I said about soy wax being better, though. It’s supposedly less trouble, from what I hear.
But honestly, I’m happy enough with a plain old candle. It does the job just fine. But these dessert candles, they are somethin’ special, I reckon. They’re pretty to look at, and they smell good too. And they make a nice gift for folks who like that kind of thing. So, if you’re lookin’ for a unique candle, somethin’ a little different, give these dessert candles a try. You might just like ’em. And if you don’t, well, you can always give ’em to someone else. There’s always someone who appreciates a pretty candle. That’s just the way it is.
So there you have it, my two cents on dessert candles. Take it or leave it, it’s just one old woman’s opinion.
