Alright, let’s talk about them Iranian sweets, you know, the stuff they eat over there. I ain’t never been there, mind you, but I heard tell they got some good eatin’. So, let’s see what kinda sugary things they got.
First off, they got this thing called Bastani Sonnati, or somethin’ like that. Sounds fancy, but it’s just ice cream, y’all. But not just any ice cream, this here’s saffron ice cream. Makes it all yellow and kinda…flowery, I guess. They say kings and queens ate this stuff way back when, so it must be pretty good, huh? It’s like, their special ice cream, been around forever, they say.
Then there’s Faloodeh. Now this one’s a bit weird. It’s like, noodles, but cold and sweet. They put rose water in it, which I ain’t too sure about, sounds like somethin’ you’d put in your grandma’s bathroom, not your food. But hey, they like it, and it’s good for when it’s hot outside, so who am I to judge?
- They use these thin noodles, like real thin.
- Mix it with rose water, the kind that smells like flowers.
- Add some lime, makes it kinda sour, I reckon.
And get this, they got cotton candy too! They call it Pashmak. Comes from a place called Yazd, wherever that is. Kids love it, just like kids here love that pink and blue stuff. But this Pashmak, they say it’s softer, and they put in all sorts of flavors, like sesame, rose water again, and some other fancy stuff I can’t even pronounce. Sounds like they like their rose water, don’t they?
Another thing they got is called Ranginak. This one’s made with dates. You know, those sweet, sticky things? They mush ‘em up and mix ‘em with flour and stuff, then they eat it with their tea. Speaking of tea, they drink a lot of black tea over there, real hot and strong. They say you gotta burn your lips on it, that’s how you know it’s good. I don’t know about that, sounds painful to me. But they always have tea with their sweets, like it’s part of the whole deal.
And when they have big holidays, like that Ramadan thing, they make special sweets. Zoolbia and Bamieh, they call ‘em. Look like little fried things, all sugary and sticky. And Reshte Khoshkar, I don’t know what that is but sounds interesting . They also got Shole Zard and Fereni, probably some kinda pudding or somethin’. They go all out, seems like.
They also got these things called Noon Khamei. They say it is kinda like puffs with cream in them. I guess it’s somethin’ like them cream puffs they sell at the store, but maybe a little different. They like to dip it in stuff, too, make it even sweeter.
So, yeah, them Iranians, they got a whole bunch of different sweets. From old-timey treats to newfangled stuff, they like their sugar, that’s for sure. Whether it’s for a regular day or a big celebration, they got somethin’ sweet to eat. And that’s all there is to it, I reckon.
It’s all about enjoyin’ somethin’ sweet, whether it’s fancy or plain, that’s what I think. And from what I hear, them Iranians, they know how to do just that. They got sweets for every occasion, every taste. Makes you wanna try some, don’t it? Maybe I’ll have to find me an Iranian bakery one of these days.
