Alright, let’s talk about what to eat with them sausage and peppers, you know, the kind you get at the fair, all greasy and good. I ain’t no fancy chef, but I know what tastes good with what, been eatin’ long enough, I tell ya.
First off, you gotta have somethin’ to soak up all that juice, right? Mashed potatoes is always a good bet. Just boil ’em up, mash ’em good, throw in some butter, maybe some milk if you got it. Plain and simple, but it works. Them potatoes just soak up all that sausage and pepper flavor, it’s a match made in heaven, I tell ya.
Another thing that goes real good is cabbage. Now, I know some folks don’t like it, but cooked right, it’s mighty fine. You can just chop it up and boil it, or if you feeling fancy, fry it up with a little bacon grease. Either way, it’s good for ya and it fills ya up. Some folks call it colcannon when you mix it with mashed potatoes, sounds fancy, but it’s just good eatin’. And don’t forget about sauerkraut, that’s just sour cabbage, but it cuts through all that richness real nice.
- Mashed Potatoes – plain or mixed with cabbage.
- Cabbage – boiled or fried, even that sauerkraut stuff.
Now, if you want somethin’ a little different, you can try some sweet potatoes. Just bake ’em or boil ’em, same as regular potatoes. They got that sweetness to ’em, goes good with the peppers. Or, you can roast up some other veggies too. Roast tomatoes are real good, get all soft and juicy. Or just throw some carrots and onions in the oven with ’em, whatever you got laying around.
And then there’s the salads. Not the leafy kind, mind you. I’m talkin’ about potato salad and macaroni salad. Them creamy salads, they go real good with the sausage and peppers. You know, the kind you get at the deli counter. Full of mayonnaise and whatnot. Not the healthiest thing, but tasty. And coleslaw, that’s good too. That crunchy cabbage and carrots in that creamy dressing, it’s a nice change of pace.
Sometimes, I like to have some corn on the cob with my sausage and peppers. Just boil it up and slather it with butter. It’s sweet and juicy, and it’s easy to eat. Kids love it too. Or you can cut the corn off the cob and fry it up with some butter, that’s real good too. Buttery corn, they call it, tastes like summer.
- Sweet Potatoes – baked or boiled, nice and sweet.
- Roasted Veggies – tomatoes, carrots, onions, whatever you got.
- Creamy Salads – potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw, the good stuff.
- Corn on the Cob – boiled or buttery corn-off-the cob
Now, if you’re feelin’ real ambitious, you can make some risotto. That’s that fancy rice dish. I ain’t made it much myself, but I had it once with mushrooms, and it was mighty tasty. It’s creamy and cheesy, and it goes real good with sausage. But it’s a lot of work, so I don’t make it often. You can just buy those pre-made ones at the store, ain’t as good as homemade, but it’ll do in a pinch.
And then there’s the fried stuff. You can’t go wrong with some french fries or onion rings. Or those jalapeno poppers, if you like a little spice. Or even some crispy green beans, if you want somethin’ a little healthier. But really, anything fried goes good with sausage and peppers, let’s be honest. Even them crab cakes, if you feeling fancy, though I don’t know why you’d mix seafood and sausage, but some folks like it.
Stuffed mushrooms are another good option. Fill them with breadcrumbs and cheese and bake them until they’re golden brown. They’re a little bit fancy, but they’re easy to make. And they go real well with the sausage and peppers.
So there ya have it, a whole bunch of things you can eat with your sausage and peppers. Don’t overthink it, just pick somethin’ you like and go to town. It ain’t rocket science, it’s just food. And good food at that. You got your potatoes, your cabbage, your salads, your corn, even that fancy risotto stuff. And don’t forget the fried stuff, can’t ever go wrong with fried stuff. Now go on and eat, you’re makin’ me hungry just talkin’ about it.
Most importantly, remember to cook with love, and don’t be afraid to experiment. Sometimes the best meals are the ones you make up on the spot. And don’t forget to share with your neighbors, that’s what makes a good meal even better. Now get cookin’!
