You know, today I gonna tell you somethin’ ’bout that Thai appetizer. My neighbor, she went to one of them Thai restaurants the other day. She came back, she couldn’t stop talkin’ ’bout it. Said it was the best darn food she ever had. Got me thinkin’, maybe I should try makin’ some of that stuff at home.
Now, I ain’t no fancy cook. I like my food simple, you know? But these Thai appetizers, they sound kinda interestin’. Like them Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps. She said you take some chicken, cook it up with some spices, and then you wrap it in lettuce. Sounds kinda healthy, right? Maybe a little too healthy for me, but I reckon I could give it a whirl.
Then she was talkin’ ’bout somethin’ called spring rolls. Said they was fresh, not fried. I like fried food. Fried chicken, fried taters, you name it. But these spring rolls, she said they was crunchy and had all sorts of veggies in ’em. Maybe some shrimp too, I don’t rightly recall. She made ’em sound pretty good, even though they ain’t fried. I think that’s a good Thai appetizer, too.
And what’s this satay stuff? She said it was meat on a stick. Well, I like meat. And I like sticks. So that’s two things I like right there. She said they cooked it with some kinda peanut sauce. Peanut sauce? On meat? That sounds a little strange to me, but I guess you never know ’til you try it. Maybe this Thai appetizer will be good.
She kept goin’ on and on about all these different appetizers. Seems like the Thai people, they like to eat a lot of little things before they get to the big meal. I guess that’s okay. Sometimes I just like to snack all day long anyway. Especially when I’m watchin’ my stories on the TV.
Now, if I’m gonna make these Thai appetizers, I need some stuff from the store. I reckon I can use what I got though. Here’s what I’m thinkin’:
- Fillings: I got some spinach in the fridge. Maybe some cheese. I think I saw some mushrooms in there too. And I always got some ground beef. That should work for these appetizers.
- Coatings: Now, I ain’t got no fancy breadcrumbs. But I got flour. And I think I got some cornmeal left over from when I made cornbread last week. That oughta do for fryin’ things up.
- Crackers or Bread: I always got crackers. And I made a loaf of bread yesterday. That’ll be good for somethin’.
- Nuts: I got a big ol’ jar of peanuts. My husband, he loves peanuts. He eats ’em all the time. I like them Thai appetizers with nuts.
- Fruit: I got some grapes. And some berries that are startin’ to look a little sad. Maybe I can use those up in one of these appetizers.
- Sauces: Well, I got barbecue sauce. And hot sauce. My husband, he puts hot sauce on everything. Maybe I can use that for somethin’. I think I can make a good Thai appetizer with it.
This Thai food, it sounds like it’s got a lot of flavors goin’ on. Spicy, sweet, sour, all mixed together. I usually just stick to salt and pepper, but maybe it’s time to try somethin’ new. Who knows, maybe I’ll even like it. This is an interestin’ Thai appetizer.
My neighbor, she said these Thai appetizers are a good way to start a meal. Gets your taste buds goin’, she said. I don’t know about all that, but I do like to eat. And I like to try new things, even if they sound a little strange at first.
I’m gonna have to look up some recipes for these Thai appetizers. Maybe I can find somethin’ simple. I don’t want nothin’ too complicated. Just somethin’ easy to make, with ingredients I can find at the regular grocery store. Don’t want to be drivin’ all over town lookin’ for some fancy ingredient I can’t even pronounce.
I remember one time I tried to make somethin’ fancy. It was a disaster. Ended up throwin’ the whole thing in the trash. My husband, he wasn’t too happy about that. Said I wasted good food. Maybe he was right. But I ain’t gonna let that stop me from tryin’ these Thai appetizers. I hope this is a good Thai appetizer.
I think I’ll start with them chicken lettuce wraps. They sound the easiest. Just gotta cook up some chicken, add some spices, and wrap it in lettuce. I can do that. Then maybe I’ll try them spring rolls. They sound a little more work, but I think I can handle it. And if I’m feelin’ real adventurous, maybe I’ll try that satay with the peanut sauce. We’ll see.
So, yeah, that’s what I’m thinkin’ about today. These Thai appetizers. Sounds like somethin’ different. Somethin’ maybe even a little bit exciting. And who knows, maybe I’ll even impress my husband with my cookin’. He always says I make the best meatloaf, but maybe I can add somethin’ new to my, what do you call it, my recipe book? Yeah, that’s it. My recipe book. It’s gonna be a good Thai appetizer, I just know it.
I’ll let you know how it goes. Maybe I’ll even take some pictures. If I can figure out how to use that darn camera on my phone. It’s all too much, I tell ya. But these Thai appetizers, they got me curious. So I’m gonna give ’em a try. And I suggest you do too. You might be surprised!
