Alright, let’s talk about them… what do you call ’em… vegan soup dumplings, yeah, that’s it. My grandkid told me about these things. Said they’re all the rage now, like them avocado toasts. Don’t get me started on those, cost a fortune and taste like grass, if you ask me. But these dumplings, they ain’t half bad.
So, first off, what are they? Well, they’re like little pockets of dough, see? And inside, there’s this… soupy stuff. Not like my chicken soup, mind you, but it’s got flavor. My grandkid says it’s got vegetables and stuff. Says they ain’t got no meat, which is fine by me, long as it tastes good. They call ’em “xiao long bao” in fancy places, but I just call ’em dumplings. Easier that way, ain’t it?
Now, you can buy these things frozen. My grandkid got a whole bunch of bags, said they come from some store called “Trader Joe’s”. Never heard of it, but they got a lot of food there, apparently. These bags, they got like, forty dumplings in each one, maybe more. Enough to feed a whole army, or at least my family. And they say it’s limited time, so you gotta grab ’em while you can. Sounds like them sales they have at the fabric store, gotta rush in before all the good stuff is gone.
- First, you gotta boil some water, get it nice and hot.
- Then, you dump them dumplings in, careful not to splash yourself, hot water burns, you know.
- Wait a bit, let ’em cook, till they float up to the top, that’s how you know they’re ready.
My grandkid, he likes to dip ’em in some kinda sauce. Soy sauce, he calls it. Salty stuff, but it goes good with the dumplings, I guess. I just eat ’em plain, myself. Don’t need all that fancy stuff. They got enough flavor on their own, if you ask me.
Now, some folks say dumplings ain’t healthy cause they’re fried. These ain’t fried though, they’re steamed. That’s gotta be better for you, right? Less greasy, anyhow. And since they got all them vegetables inside, that’s gotta be good for you too. At least, that’s what my grandkid says. He’s always reading about that healthy stuff.
I heard some people make these dumplings themselves. From scratch! Can you believe it? Flour, baking powder, some kinda oil… Sounds like a lot of work to me. I’m too old for that kind of fuss. I’ll stick to buying ’em frozen, thank you very much. But if you’re young and got the time, go ahead, knock yourself out. Just don’t expect me to help, my hands ain’t what they used to be.
My grandkid says these vegan dumplings are real popular now. Seems like everyone’s eating ’em. I don’t get it, but then again, I don’t get half the things young folks do these days. But as long as they taste good and fill my belly, I ain’t complaining. And these dumplings, they do the trick. They’re warm, they’re filling, and they don’t cost an arm and a leg, unlike that avocado toast.
So, if you’re looking for somethin’ new to try, somethin’ warm and tasty, give these vegan soup dumplings a shot. You might be surprised. I was. And that don’t happen too often these days. Just remember to cook ’em right, and don’t burn yourself. And maybe grab a bag or two extra, before they’re all gone. You never know when them stores are gonna run out of stuff.
You can order them online too, my grandkid said. Just go to some website and they’ll bring them right to your door. Fancy, ain’t it? Back in my day, you had to go to the store yourself, rain or shine. But hey, times change, I guess. Just make sure you got enough space in your freezer, them dumplings take up a lot of room.
Now, I gotta go, got a bingo game to get to. But you try those dumplings, hear? And let me know what you think. Maybe you can bring some to bingo night, share ’em with the girls. We’re always looking for something new to snack on, besides them stale cookies they serve at the hall.
