You know, folks always be asking, “What’s good to eat with that deer meat?” Well, I tell ya, there’s a heap of things! We call it venison. This here is all about them venison appetizers. Little bites of goodness, perfect for before a big meal, or just snackin’ on while watching the game.
Now, some city folks turn up their noses at venison. “Ew,” they say. But they just ain’t had it cooked right! You gotta know what you’re doin’, or it can be tough. But done proper, it’s tastier than any old beef, I tell ya what! This year, we gonna make some real good venison appetizers, gonna be best!
First thing, you gotta get yourself some good venison. Best to know a hunter, or maybe a butcher who knows his stuff. Could be deer, elk, whatever. We use deer mostly, ’cause that’s what we got around here. Get that meat cut up small, or ground up like hamburger.
One thing I like to make is little venison meatballs. Just mix up that ground venison with some breadcrumbs, an egg, some chopped onion, and whatever spices you like. I like a little garlic powder, salt, pepper, maybe a pinch of that red pepper flake if you like it hot. Then you roll ’em up into little balls, smaller than a golf ball. Fry ’em up in a pan with a little oil till they’re brown, or bake ’em in the oven, whichever way you like. I like to bake mine at 350 for about 20 minutes. Easy Peasy! These venison appetizers will be your new favorite!
- Get some good venison
- Mix it with bread crumbs, egg, onion, spices
- Roll into little balls
- Fry or bake ’em
Another good one is them little sausages. You can buy ’em already made, or you can make your own if you’re feeling fancy. Just cut ’em up into little bite-sized pieces, and fry ’em up. Or you can wrap ’em in bacon! Everything’s better with bacon, ain’t it? Just wrap a little piece of bacon around each sausage, stick a toothpick in it to hold it together, and bake ’em in the oven. Oh boy, those are good! These bacon wrapped venison appetizers are to die for!
We used to have this neighbor, see. And she would make the best. She would simmer that venison with mushrooms and onions, and some other stuff. Herbs, I think, and bacon. And red wine! Fancy, huh? That was so good. We all loved it. She’d put a little bit of that other stuff in there too, what’s it called… Cognac! That’s the one. Just a splash, she said. Made it taste real special.
Now, if you really wanna impress folks, you can make these little things called “Bacon Wrapped Venison Bites.” You take a little cube of venison, wrap it in bacon, and then you brush it with some kind of sauce. Some folks like barbecue sauce, some like that teriyaki stuff. Whatever you like. Then you bake ’em in the oven till the bacon’s all crispy. My mouth’s waterin’ just thinkin’ about it! These little bites are one of the best venison appetizers I’ve ever had!
- Cut venison into cubes
- Wrap in bacon
- Brush with sauce
- Bake till crispy
You can also just slice up some venison steak real thin, and marinate it in somethin’ tasty. Like maybe some soy sauce, a little brown sugar, some garlic. Then you can just grill it up real quick, or fry it in a pan. Serve it with some toothpicks, and folks can just grab a piece. Easy peasy!
One time, I saw this fella on the TV, he was makin’ what he called “venison sliders.” Little tiny burgers, made with ground venison. He put ’em on these little tiny buns, with some cheese and some kind of special sauce. They looked pretty good, I gotta admit. I might try that sometime, if I can find them little buns. This TV guy is a big fan of venison appetizers, he makes them all the time.
I tell ya, there’s all kinds of ways to make them venison appetizers. You can find recipes in books, on the computer, all over the place. Just gotta find somethin’ you like, and give it a try. You can even make it your own. I use sugar-free barbecue sauce because I don’t like it too sweet. But you can use whatever you want! That’s the best part. Make these venison appetizers your way!
Don’t be afraid of that venison! It’s good eatin’, I promise ya. And it’s good for ya, too. Lots of protein, not much fat. Way better for ya than that store-bought stuff, all full of chemicals and who knows what.
So next time you got some venison, don’t just make a big old roast. Try makin’ some of these here appetizers. Your friends and family will thank ya, I guarantee it. And they might even stop sayin’ “Ew” when you mention venison. Might even ask for seconds! Maybe they will even ask you to make these venison appetizers for the big game!
Now, these are just a few ideas to get ya started. There’s a whole world of venison appetizers out there, just waitin’ to be discovered. So go on, get cookin’! And don’t forget the toothpicks!
