Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this here “occidental seafood,” whatever that fancy name means. It’s just fish, ya know? Stuff from the water. But I guess some folks gotta make it sound all highfalutin.
Why Folks Like Fish, I Reckon
Now, I ain’t no doctor or nothin’, but I hear tell that eatin’ fish is good for ya. They say it’s got all sorts of stuff in it, like them “omega-threes” or somethin’. Sounds like a car part, if ya ask me! But they say it makes your skin nice and your eyes not so dry. And maybe even keeps ya from feelin’ down in the dumps all the time. I guess that’s why folks get a hankerin’ for it sometimes.
- Good for your skin, I heard.
- Eyes ain’t so dry, they say.
- Keeps you from feelin’ all mopey.
And it ain’t just that omega stuff. They say fish got all kinds of vitamins and whatnots. Like them D and B vitamins, and stuff called calcium and iron. Even got somethin’ called zink and iodine and mag-naysium and pot-tassium! Sounds like a whole hardware store in one bite! But I guess it’s all good for ya, keeps your bones strong and your blood workin’ right.
Fish All Over the Place
Now, where you get this fish, that’s a whole ‘nother story. Some places, like that Japan place, they got fish all around ’em. It’s an island, ya see, so they just go out in their boats and catch it. Easy peasy. Other places, you gotta go to the store and buy it. And sometimes that stuff ain’t cheap, let me tell ya!
I heard tell of folks payin’ a whole lotta money for some big ol’ crab. King crab, they call it. Said they went to all these different sellers, tryin’ to get a good price. Finally found a nice lady who didn’t try to cheat ’em too bad. Paid a bunch of money for it, but I guess they really wanted that crab. Me? I’d rather have a good ol’ catfish fry any day.
Cookin’ Up That Seafood
Now, when it comes to cookin’ this seafood, there’s all sorts of ways to do it. You can boil it, poach it, fry it… Heck, I even seen folks grill it! But the main thing is, ya gotta make sure it’s fresh and clean. Nothin’ worse than eatin’ fish that smells like it’s been sittin’ around for a week. Yuck!
Southern Style Seafood Boil
I heard tell of a dish they call a “seafood boil.” Sounds like a big mess to me, but folks seem to love it. They throw all sorts of stuff in a big pot – shrimp, crawfish (or crayfish, or crawdads, or mudbugs, whatever you wanna call ’em), vegetables… the whole shebang. Then they boil it all up and dump it out on a table and everybody just digs in. Messy, but I bet it’s tasty.
Tips for Cookin’ Fish
And if you’re gonna cook fish yourself, here’s a few things to keep in mind. First, like I said, make sure it’s fresh. Then, ya gotta clean it good. Get all the scales and guts and whatnot out of there. And don’t overcook it! Nothin’ worse than dry, chewy fish. Just cook it till it’s nice and flaky, and you’re good to go.
So, that’s about all I know about this “occidental seafood.” It’s just fish, plain and simple. But it’s good for ya, and there’s lots of ways to cook it. So go on and get yourself some, and see what all the fuss is about. Just don’t go payin’ a king’s ransom for it, unless you really got a hankerin’ for that fancy crab.
Craving Seafood? Maybe You Need…
Like I said before, sometimes you just get a cravin’ for fish. Maybe your body’s tryin’ to tell ya somethin’. Maybe you need more of them omega-things, or maybe you’re just hungry for somethin’ tasty. Either way, there ain’t nothin’ wrong with eatin’ a little seafood now and then. It’s good for ya, and it tastes mighty fine, if you cook it right.
Seafood, Seafood Everywhere…
Now I reckon you can find this seafood pretty much anywhere these days. Used to be you had to live by the water to get good fish, but now they ship it all over the place. So, no matter where you are, you can probably find some decent seafood if you look hard enough. Just remember what I told ya about makin’ sure it’s fresh, and you’ll be alright.
And that’s all I gotta say about that. Go on now, and get yourself some fish. Just don’t forget to invite me over for dinner!
