Alright, so the other morning, I woke up wanting some decent breakfast, not just cereal again. The dog, Max, was giving me those eyes, you know the ones. Needed his walk. Then it hit me – why not try and combine the two? Find one of those dog friendly breakfast spots I keep hearing about.

Getting Started – The Plan
First thing, had to figure out where. Didn’t want to spend ages driving around. I remembered seeing a little cafe a few blocks over, the one with the patio out front. Seemed like a good bet. Sometimes you see folks with their dogs there. So, that was the target.
Next, getting us ready. Wasn’t too complicated.
- Grabbed Max’s leash, the sturdy one.
- Filled his travel water bowl, tossed it in my bag. Always gotta have water.
- Got my wallet, keys, threw on a jacket. Basic stuff.
Max was already bouncing by the door, obviously knew something was up. He loves going anywhere.
The Actual Attempt
We walked over. Took about 15 minutes. Nice morning, actually. Max did his business along the way, which was good. Less chance of accidents at the cafe, right? Arrived there, saw a couple of tables outside on the little patio bit they have. Perfect.
Found an empty table in the corner, kinda out of the way. Didn’t want Max right in the middle of everything. Tied his leash to the leg of my chair. Made sure it was secure, didn’t want him wandering off to greet everyone. He sat down pretty good, mostly just watched people going by.
Getting served was… okay. The waitress came out, saw Max, didn’t freak out, which was a plus. She even smiled. I kept it simple, ordered coffee and some scrambled eggs with toast. Didn’t want anything fancy that would take ages.

Here’s the real part: keeping Max settled while I ate. He was mostly fine, but got a bit whiny when someone walked past with another dog on the other side of the street. Had to give him a few commands, keep him focused. Poured some water into his bowl, he had a drink. Having that bowl was key, definitely.
The food came. Eating with one hand while keeping the leash steady with the other wasn’t the most relaxing breakfast I’ve ever had, gotta be honest. The eggs were fine, coffee was hot. But you’re always kinda half-watching the dog, half-eating. You can’t just zone out with your coffee like you normally would.
Wrapping Up
Finished up pretty quick. Paid the bill, gave Max a pat. Untied him, and we headed off for the rest of our walk. He seemed happy enough.
So, the dog friendly breakfast thing? Yeah, we did it. It worked out. Was it amazing? It was alright. It’s nice to have the option, especially on a good weather day. But it’s not the same as a quiet breakfast alone. You gotta be prepared to manage your dog the whole time. Definitely need a well-behaved dog for it, too. Max is pretty chill, thankfully. Would I do it again? Probably, yeah, but maybe not every weekend. It’s more about the novelty and getting out with the dog than the actual breakfast experience itself, if that makes sense.
