This here soup and appetizer, you know, it’s the start of a good meal. Like, before you get to the big stuff, the meat and potatoes, you gotta have somethin’ to wake up your belly. That’s what these here soups and little bites are for, ya see.
Now, if you’re havin’ folks over, like a dinner party or somethin’, you might be scratchin’ your head wonderin’ what kinda soup to make. There’s a whole mess of ’em out there, enough to make your head spin. But don’t you worry your pretty little head about it.
My grandma, bless her soul, she always said a good soup warms you from the inside out. And she was right, you know. There are those old-timey soups, the ones that just feel like a hug in a bowl. Then there’s some other ones, kinda fancy, but still good for the soul. Those are the kinda surprise soups that make ya go “mmm”.
- Chunky chili soup is good for cold days.
- That simple pho, oh, that’s a good one too, even if I can’t say it right.
- Then there’s chicken noodle, can’t go wrong with that.
Usually, soup is somethin’ you eat first, a starter, they call it. Unless it’s a real fancy dinner, like one of them banquets. Then you might get a starter AND a soup. Can you believe that? Two things before the main meal. But hey, more food, right?
When I serve soup, I just use them regular bowls, you know, the ones you eat cereal out of. Nothin’ fancy. And don’t you fret if it don’t look all dolled up. Just put the bowl on a bigger plate, and maybe a nice cloth napkin under it. Makes it look a little bit nicer, like you tried a little. And if you got a pretty pot, use that to serve the soup. Even if it ain’t one of them fancy soup tureens, like those rich folks use. It is a good appetizer.
Now, ’bout them appetizers. They’re like little snacks, just a bite or two, to get your mouth waterin’ for the real food. Like, when you smell somethin’ good cookin’ and your tummy starts rumblin’? That’s what appetizers do. They get ya ready to eat.
There’s all kinds of appetizers. You got your little cheese and crackers. Or maybe some of them little sausages on toothpicks. My neighbor, she makes these little cucumber sandwiches, real thin, with no crusts. Says it’s fancy. I just think it’s a lot of work for a little bite, but they’re tasty, I’ll give her that. This is the best way for soup and appetizer.
Sometimes, folks will have a whole table full of appetizers. Like a buffet, but just for the little stuff. You can walk around and pick and choose what you want. It’s good for a party, ’cause then people can mingle and chat while they’re nibblin’. And they ain’t fillin’ up on the main course before you even get it on the table.
- Cheese and crackers, simple and good.
- Little sausages, always a favorite.
- Cucumber sandwiches, if you’re feelin’ fancy.
- A whole table of snacks, if you’re havin’ a crowd.
But, if you ask me, the best appetizer is just a good bowl of soup. It’s warm, it’s fillin’, and it gets your belly ready for whatever else you’re gonna eat. ‘Course, I might be biased. I do love a good soup. It makes the best appetizer.
Now, you can have soup any time, not just as a starter. I like to have a big pot of soup on the stove on a cold day. Just simmerin’ away, makin’ the whole house smell good. Then whenever you’re hungry, you can just ladle yourself out a bowl. It’s like a hug in a bowl, I tell ya.
And if you got leftovers, well, that’s even better. Soup always tastes better the next day, after all the flavors have had a chance to get to know each other. It’s like they’re havin’ a little party in the pot overnight, and by the next day, they’re all best friends.
So, next time you’re thinkin’ about what to make for dinner, don’t forget about soup. And maybe some of them little appetizers, too. They’re a good way to start a meal, or just to have somethin’ tasty to nibble on. And remember what my grandma used to say: a good soup warms you from the inside out. And she was one smart cookie, that grandma of mine. You should choose the right soup and appetizer.
And don’t be scared to try new things. There’s a whole world of soups and appetizers out there, just waitin’ to be tasted. You might find somethin’ you really like. And even if you don’t, well, at least you tried. That’s what life’s all about, tryin’ new things and seein’ what you like. And eatin’ good food, of course. That’s important, too. Very important for choosing a good soup and appetizer.
