Okay, so today I tried to make “fufu and soup,” and let me tell you, it was a whole journey. I’m no chef, but I like trying new things, you know?

First, I looked up a bunch of recipes online. Honestly, there were so many variations! Some used cassava, some used plantains, some used yams… It was a bit overwhelming. I ended up picking one that seemed simple enough, using cassava and plantains because that’s what I could find at the store.
Then came the shopping. Finding the ingredients was a little adventure in itself. I went to a couple of different stores before I found everything. Gotta say, carrying all those heavy root vegetables was a workout!
The Cooking Process
- Step 1: Peeling. Oh boy, peeling those cassava and plantains was tougher than I expected. My hands were cramping! I definitely need to find a better peeler next time.
- Step 2:Boiling. I chopped up the cassava and plantains and threw them in a big pot of water.I added some salt.I boiled everything for about 30minutes,until it all soft.
- Step 3:Pounding.This is where the real fun (and hard work) began. I used a big mortar and pestle I to pound the boiled cassava and plantains. I’m telling you; it was a serious arm workout! I had to keep adding a little bit of the hot water to get the right consistency. It took a while, but I slowly watched the fufu began, and my arm were on fire!
- Step 4: Making the Soup. The soup was way easier.I fried some onions and garlic in another pan,I added some tomatoes, peppers, and some spices I had lying around. I let that simmer for a bit, then I added some chicken broth and some leftover chicken I had in the fridge.
- Step 5: combine.Once everything was ready,I pour the soup into a bowl and add the fufu.
Finally, it was time to eat! I have to say, it was pretty good! The fufu was smooth and starchy, and the soup was flavorful and comforting. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it in the end. And hey, I learned something new, which is always a win in my book.
Next time, I might try a different recipe, maybe one with yams. Or maybe I’ll just order takeout… We’ll see!
