Getting Started with Easter Cookies
Alright, so Easter was coming up, and I figured, why not make some cookies? Had these Easter-themed cookie cutters lying around – you know, the bunny, the chick, the egg shapes. Seemed like a decent way to spend an afternoon, maybe get the kitchen smelling nice.

Prepping the Dough
First thing, had to make the dough. Pulled out the usual stuff:
- Flour
- Sugar
- Butter, softened it up a bit
- Couple of eggs
- Bit of vanilla
Mixed it all together. Used the stand mixer for the first part, then got my hands in there. Got it into a big ball, wrapped it in plastic wrap. The recipe said chill it, so I chucked it in the fridge for about an hour. Helps make it less sticky when you roll it out, supposedly.
Cutting Out the Shapes
Okay, dough chilled. Threw some flour down on the counter so it wouldn’t stick. Pulled the dough out, started rolling. Tried to get it even, maybe like a quarter-inch thick? Then came the fun part, grabbing those easter cookie cutters. Had a bunny, a chick, and a couple of egg shapes. Pressed them down firmly into the dough. Had to wiggle them a bit sometimes to get a clean cut. The bunny ears were a bit fiddly, had to be careful lifting those out so they didn’t break off. Got a whole bunch of shapes cut out and slid them onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Less mess to clean up later.
Baking Time
Shoved the baking sheets into the oven. Had it preheated already. Baked them until the edges just started looking golden brown. You gotta watch them close, they can go from perfect to burnt pretty quick. Pulled them out, let them sit on the sheet for a few minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool completely. If you try to move them too soon, they just fall apart.
The Decorating Bit
Once they were totally cool, decided to decorate some. Mixed up some simple icing – just powdered sugar and a tiny bit of milk. Split it into a few bowls, added some food coloring – pink, yellow, light blue. Nothing fancy. Just spread the icing on with a knife. Tried piping on a couple, but honestly, spreading was easier. Threw some sprinkles on top while the icing was still wet. It wasn’t professional looking or anything, but hey, they’re homemade.
End Result
So yeah, ended up with a bunch of Easter cookies. They tasted pretty good, like a basic sugar cookie should. Using the easter cookie cutters definitely made them look festive. Was it worth the effort? Yeah, I guess so. It passed the time, and now there are cookies. Simple as that.
