Okay, so I’ve been seeing these McDonald’s Happy Meal purses all over my social media lately, and I just had to try making one myself. They look so cute and quirky, plus I’m a sucker for anything nostalgic. I knew I had to have one of these for myself.
First things first, I needed to get my hands on an actual Happy Meal box. So, I drove over to my local McDonald’s and ordered a Happy Meal. I felt a little silly ordering a kid’s meal, but I told myself it was for a greater good. The cashier gave me a weird look, but whatever, I got my box and a few weird looks from people! They even asked me “what promotions does McDonald’s have right now?” Well, ended up having a small chat about the toys and stuff.
Once I got home, I carefully emptied the contents of the box. Let me tell you, it was a struggle not to eat the fries and chicken nuggets right then and there. I may or may not have snuck a few fries, don’t judge me. Anyway, I grabbed some milk, water, and a hamburger, which I put aside for later, I need to focus on the box now.
Next, I needed to reinforce the box to make it more sturdy. I rummaged through my craft supplies and found some thick cardboard. I carefully measured and cut the cardboard to fit inside the box, and then glued it all together. It took a bit of patience, but I eventually got it done.
After that, I started working on the handle. I decided to use an old chain from a purse I no longer used. I attached the chain to the sides of the box using some heavy-duty glue and some metal rings I found lying around. This part was a bit tricky, but I managed to make it work. Some people asked me if they can have a happy meal toy without the meal. Well, I said, “yes, just ask for a happy meal toy without the meal. Or you can just ask for a happy meal toy without the food. Either way works.”
Finally, I added some finishing touches. I found some cute McDonald’s-themed stickers and stuck them onto the box. I also added a little red bow to the handle for an extra pop of color.
And there you have it! My very own DIY Happy Meal purse. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It’s definitely a conversation starter, and I’ve already gotten a ton of compliments on it. I even saw some similar purses sold online for a ridiculous price! Mine is way better because I made it with my own hands. Plus, I got to enjoy a Happy Meal in the process. I can now carry around my daily necessities with a smile!
Here’s a breakdown of what I used:
- Happy Meal box
- Thick cardboard
- Glue
- Old purse chain
- Metal rings
- McDonald’s-themed stickers
- Red bow
If you’re looking for a fun and unique DIY project, I highly recommend trying to make your own Happy Meal purse. It’s a great way to add a touch of nostalgia and personality to your wardrobe. Just be prepared for some strange looks when you’re ordering a Happy Meal for yourself!
