Okay, so I decided to try making that perogies casserole thing in the crockpot the other day. Been meaning to give it a shot.

Getting Started
First things first, I hauled the crockpot out. Had to wipe the dust off it, hasn’t seen action in a bit. Then I grabbed the bag of frozen perogies from the freezer. You know, the usual cheese and potato ones. Nothing fancy.
Needed some other stuff. Found half a ring of kielbasa sausage in the fridge, figured that’d work. Grabbed an onion too. And cheese, gotta have cheese. Used a block of cheddar I had.
Prepping the Ingredients
So, I chopped up the onion. Not too fine, just a rough chop. Then I sliced up the kielbasa into coin shapes. Threw the sausage and onion into a frying pan, cooked ’em up ’til the sausage got a bit brown and the onions were soft. Drained off the grease, don’t want the casserole swimming in it.
While that was cooking, I shredded the cheddar cheese. Made a decent pile.
Layering it Up
Alright, time to assemble this thing in the crockpot.
- Started by dumping about half the bag of frozen perogies right into the bottom of the crockpot. Spread ’em out a bit.
- Next, I spooned about half of the cooked sausage and onion mixture over the perogies.
- Then sprinkled a good layer of the shredded cheddar cheese on top of that.
- Repeated the layers: put the rest of the frozen perogies in, topped with the remaining sausage and onions, and finished with the rest of the cheese piled on top.
I thought about adding some soup or something, but decided against it this time. Wanted to see how it turned out simpler.
Cooking Time
Put the lid on the crockpot. Plugged it in and set it to the high setting. Based on something I read somewhere, I figured about 3 hours on high should do it.

Didn’t just leave it though. Went back maybe twice during those three hours and gave it a gentle stir around the edges, just pushed things down a bit. Didn’t want the top burning or the bottom sticking too bad.
The Result
After the three hours were up, I lifted the lid. Looked pretty good, actually. The cheese was all melted and bubbly, and the perogies looked soft. You could smell the onion and sausage.
Scooped some out onto a plate. The perogies were cooked through, nice and tender. The sausage and onion added good flavor. It held together okay, sort of like a cheesy potato bake but with perogies. Pretty filling stuff. It worked out alright, really easy to throw together which is always a win for me.
