So, I wanted to make some classic French side dishes. To be honest, I was getting bored with my usual steamed veggies and plain rice, you know? Time for a little adventure in the kitchen!
First, I grabbed some fresh vegetables and decided to try my hand at Ratatouille. I remembered seeing it in a movie once, and it looked so colorful and delicious. I chopped up some eggplant, zucchini, bell peppers, and onions. Then, I sauteed them in a big pan with some garlic and olive oil until they were all soft and fragrant.

While the veggies were cooking, I whipped up a quick tomato sauce with some canned tomatoes, herbs, and a pinch of sugar. Once the veggies were ready, I poured the sauce over them and let it all simmer together for a while. The whole house smelled amazing, let me tell you!
Next up, I wanted to try something a bit fancier, so I picked up some mushrooms and decided to make Garlic Stuffed Mushrooms. I cleaned the mushrooms, removed the stems, and finely chopped them up with some garlic. Then, I mixed the chopped stems with butter, herbs, and breadcrumbs to make the stuffing. I filled each mushroom cap with this mixture and baked them in the oven until they were golden brown and bubbly.
Finally, I decided to keep it simple with some Roasted Red Potatoes. I simply washed some small red potatoes, tossed them with olive oil, fresh rosemary, salt, and pepper, and roasted them in the oven until they were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Seriously, these are always a hit!
My Impression
In the end, my little French side dish experiment was a total success! The Ratatouille was bursting with flavor, the Garlic Stuffed Mushrooms were rich and savory, and the Roasted Red Potatoes were the perfect simple accompaniment. I even tried to make steak frites just because I saw it mentioned somewhere. It was all so good, and it definitely spiced up my usual dinner routine. I’ll be making these again for sure!
