Alright, let’s talk about these here plastic dessert cups, you know, the kind you use for parties and such. I’ve seen a whole bunch of ’em, and let me tell ya, they’re all a bit different.
What are these cups made of anyway? Well, some are made of this stuff called polystyrene. Sounds fancy, but it’s just plastic, ya know? Then you got others, made from PET or PP plastic, they say you can recycle ’em, which is good, I guess. And then there’s this newfangled kind made from corn, they call it PLA. Imagine that, makin’ cups outta corn! They say it’s compostable, but I ain’t tried it myself.
Now, the ones they use most often, I hear they’re called PET cups. Tough and last a good while, they say. There’s also these HDPE cups, they say they’re easier to recycle. Honestly, I can’t tell the difference, plastic is plastic to me.
Can you put hot stuff in ’em? Well, that’s a good question. Some say you can, but only if the cup is made for it. I wouldn’t go pourin’ boilin’ hot coffee in just any old plastic cup, that’s for sure. Might melt, ya know? For a short bit, maybe it’s okay, but I wouldn’t risk it.
Where do you get these cups? Shoot, you can find ’em everywhere these days. Big stores, online, even at the dollar store sometimes. You can get ’em in all sorts of sizes too. Little ones for puddings and such, bigger ones for parfaits, you name it. I seen some square ones too, not just the round ones. And they come with spoons sometimes, which is handy.
Speaking of sizes, I saw these little 3-ounce ones, perfect for a small bite. Then there’s the 4-ounce ones, a bit bigger. I guess it just depends on what you’re servin’. And you can get ’em in big packs too, like 50 cups or more. Good for a big party, I reckon.
Now, what about the environment? That’s somethin’ folks worry about these days. These cups, most of the time, you use ’em once and then throw ’em away, or maybe recycle ’em if you can. They say paper cups and plastic cups are both bad for the environment in different ways. Can’t win, can ya?
I did hear about these folks, Eco-somethin’ or other, they rent out cups for big events. You use ’em, they wash ’em, and use ’em again. Sounds like a good idea, less trash that way. They even put your name or whatever on ’em, fancy stuff. Reusable they call it. Guess that’s one way to do it.
But for most folks, it’s just easier to buy a pack of plastic cups at the store. Convenient, ya know? You use ’em, toss ’em, and you’re done. No washin’ dishes, that’s for sure. Just gotta remember to put ’em in the right trash can if you can recycle them. Don’t wanna go messin’ up the planet more than we already have.
So, that’s the deal with these plastic dessert cups. Lots of different kinds, different sizes, different ways to use ’em. Just gotta pick the ones you need and try to be mindful of the trash, I guess. That’s what I always say.
