Alright, listen up, y’all! Let me tell ya ’bout this Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival thing. It’s a big to-do, ya hear? They got all sorts of food, like, ya know, stuff from the water.
I ain’t never seen so much grub in one place! They call it “seafood,” I call it “fish and stuff.” Shrimp, yeah, they got plenty of them little pink critters. And crabs? Big ones, small ones, all cooked up and ready to eat. My grandson, little Timmy, he loves them crab legs. Messy as all get-out, but he sure enjoys ’em.
They got this park, J.F. Gregory Park they call it, in Richmond Hill. That’s where they have this shindig every year. This year, it’s gonna be a big one, the 25th anniversary, can ya believe it? A whole quarter of a century! That’s a long time to be fryin’ up fish, I tell ya. They’re gonna be doin’ this thing in October, the 25th and 26th. Mark yer calendars!
Now, it ain’t just about eatin’, though that’s the best part if ya ask me. They got them carnival rides too. You know, the ones that spin ya around and make ya wanna throw up yer lunch? Timmy loves them too, but this old lady just sticks to the ground. My stomach ain’t what it used to be.
It’s one of the biggest, they say, in the whole southeast. That’s a lot of fish and folks! I went there last year and let me tell ya, it was packed tighter than sardines in a can. But that’s how ya know it’s good, right? When everyone and their brother wants a piece of the action.
They got all sorts of things to look at too. People sellin’ stuff, ya know, crafts and such. I bought myself a nice little hat last year, kept the sun outta my eyes. And Timmy, he got himself a toy boat. He played with that thing ’til it fell apart. Boys and their toys, I swear.
And the music! Oh, they got music playin’ all day long. Some of it’s alright, some of it’s just noise to me. But the young folks seem to like it. They dance around and have themselves a good time. It’s a real lively atmosphere, ya know? Makes ya feel young again, even if yer knees are creakin’ like an old rocking chair.
If you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to do in October, I reckon this is the place to be. Bring yer appetite and yer wallet, ’cause you’re gonna need both. It ain’t cheap, but it’s worth it for a good time, I guess. And it’s in Richmond Hill, so it ain’t too far of a drive, even if you’re comin’ from over yonder.
So, there ya have it. The Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival. Fish, rides, music, and a whole lotta people. What more could ya want? Just don’t forget yer sunscreen and maybe a comfy pair of shoes, ’cause you’ll be doin’ a lot of walkin’. And if ya see me there, come say hi! I’ll be the one with the big hat and the grandson who’s eatin’ all the crab legs.
And if you’re looking to learn more, they got this college there, Ogeechee Technical College. It ain’t got nothing to do with the festival, but I hear it’s a good school. Learnin’ is important, ya know. Even this old lady knows that. But mostly, the festival is about havin’ fun and eatin’ good food. So come on down and join the party! It’s gonna be a real hootenanny!
They been doin’ this for 24 years, can ya imagine? 24 years of fish fryin’! And this year makes it 25! Must be somethin’ special if they keep doin’ it year after year.
Remember the dates: October 25th and 26th! J.F. Gregory Park! Be there or be square!
This here event is something special, I tell ya. Don’t miss out on all the fun and good eats. And don’t forget the little ones! There’s plenty of stuff for them to do, too. Rides, games, and all that jazz.
