Today, I was trying out a new recipe and let me tell you, the kitchen was smelling amazing! It’s for brown butter sugar cookies, which sounds fancy, but it’s really not that hard.
So, first things first, I grabbed a stick of butter and chopped it up into smaller pieces. Tossed those into a saucepan and started melting it over medium heat. I kept a close eye on it, swirling the pan occasionally.
The butter started to foam and sizzle, and after a few minutes, it turned into this beautiful golden brown color. I could smell a nutty aroma – that’s the magic happening! I took it off the heat right away because I didn’t want it to burn. Then, I poured the browned butter into a bowl and let it cool down a bit.
Mixing Ingredients
- Mixed the cooled brown butter with some sugar. I used both white and brown sugar because why not? It adds more depth of flavor, you know?
- Cracked in an egg and a splash of vanilla extract.
- Whisked everything together until it was all smooth and creamy.
In a separate bowl, I combined the dry ingredients – flour, baking soda, and a pinch of salt. Then, I gradually added this dry mix into the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. I made sure not to overmix, which is super important for cookies so they aren’t super hard.
Next, I covered the dough and popped it into the fridge. I let it chill for at least 30 minutes. Chilling the dough is like, a really big deal, It helps the flavors meld together and makes sure the cookies don’t spread out too much when they bake.
Baking The Cookies
After the dough was chilled, I preheated my oven to 350°F (175°C). Then, I scooped out the dough by rounded tablespoons and placed them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. I left some space between each one so they wouldn’t run into each other.
I baked them for about 10-12 minutes. The edges started to turn golden brown, but the centers were still a bit soft. That’s exactly how I wanted them. Finally, I took the cookies out of the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. These brown butter sugar cookies are seriously the best! The brown butter adds such a rich, nutty flavor that takes them to a whole new level. They’re crispy on the edges and chewy in the middle – just perfect! Trust me, you’ve gotta try making these. You won’t be disappointed!
