Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again with another fun little project I did in the kitchen. So, I’ve always been a huge fan of See’s Candies, like, who isn’t, right? Their stuff is legendary. But the other day, I thought, “Why not try making some of these myself?” I mean, how hard could it be? Famous last words, huh?

So, I went online, found a bunch of recipes that claimed to be “copycats” of See’s. I’m not sure how accurate they are, but I was excited to give it a shot. I decided to start with their fudge because, well, who doesn’t love a good fudge?

First things first, I gathered all the ingredients. Let me tell you, there’s quite a bit that goes into this. We’re talking butter, sugar, evaporated milk, chocolate chips, marshmallow creme, walnuts—the whole nine yards. It’s a good thing I had most of this stuff lying around already.

Making the Fudge

  • Mixing: I started by melting the butter in a big ol’ pot, then dumped in the sugar and evaporated milk. It felt kind of weird, like I was making some sort of potion, not fudge.
  • Boiling: I kept stirring that mix until it started to boil. I was a little worried about burning it, so I was glued to the stove, stirring like my life depended on it.
  • Adding the Good Stuff: Once it hit the right temperature—I used a candy thermometer to make sure—I took it off the heat and threw in the chocolate chips and marshmallow creme. This part was fun, watching the chocolate melt and everything getting all gooey and delicious.
  • Nuts: And of course, I added the walnuts. See’s fudge has walnuts, so mine had to have them too, right?
  • Cooling: Then, I poured the whole mixture into a pan I’d lined with foil and greased up. Now came the hard part—waiting for it to cool. I’m not the most patient person, especially when it comes to chocolate.

While I was waiting, I decided to tackle another one—Bordeaux candy. I found a recipe that looked simple enough. It basically involved making a brown sugar center and then covering it with milk chocolate. Sounds easy, right? Well, let me tell you, getting the brown sugar center just right was a bit of a challenge. It’s all about the texture, and let’s just say I might have messed up the first batch. Or maybe the second. But hey, third time’s the charm!

After a few hours of waiting (and maybe sneaking a taste or two), the fudge was finally set. I cut it into little squares, and honestly, it looked pretty legit. I was pretty proud of myself, not gonna lie. The Bordeaux candy was a bit more of a mixed bag, but it still tasted pretty good.

So, how did it all turn out? Well, the fudge was a hit! It wasn’t exactly like See’s, but it was close enough, and definitely delicious. I’d say it was a success. The Bordeaux candy, on the other hand, might need some more work. But it was still a fun experiment. I learned that making candy is not as easy as it looks, but it’s super rewarding. I felt like a real chocolatier for a day! I have found that practice makes perfect. I will keep trying until I can make it more perfect.

I definitely recommend giving these recipes a try if you’re a fan of See’s Candies and want to see if you can recreate some of that magic at home. Just be prepared for a bit of trial and error, and a whole lot of fun. And hey, even if it doesn’t turn out perfect, you still get to eat a bunch of chocolate, so it’s a win-win, right?

Anyway, that’s it for my little candy-making adventure. Let me know if you guys try these out, and how they turn out for you. And if you have any other copycat recipes you think I should try, drop them in the comments. Until next time, keep it sweet!
