Okay, so I found myself over in Manchester, Connecticut, needing some breakfast the other morning. Woke up pretty hungry, you know how it is, and the hotel stuff just wasn’t going to cut it. I needed something proper.
First thing I did was just drive around a bit. Sometimes you stumble onto hidden gems that way, right? Went down Main Street, saw a couple of places. Some looked too busy, others maybe a bit too… quiet. You get a feel for these things after a while.
Pulled out my phone eventually, did a quick search, but honestly, online reviews can be all over the place. I prefer seeing a place with my own eyes, seeing if real people are actually inside eating.
Finding the Spot
I ended up circling back towards the center area and spotted a diner I hadn’t noticed before. It wasn’t flashy, just looked like a solid, old-school kind of place. Plenty of cars in the lot, which I usually take as a good sign. Figured, why not give it a shot.
Walked in, and yeah, it had that classic diner vibe. Booths, counter seating, the smell of coffee and bacon hitting you right away. Found a small table by the window. The waitress came over pretty quick, poured some coffee. It was decent coffee, strong enough to wake me up.
Looked over the menu. They had all the usual suspects:
- Pancakes
- Eggs any style
- Omelets
- French Toast
Nothing too fancy, which was exactly what I was in the mood for. I just went with two eggs over easy, bacon, home fries, and rye toast. Can’t go wrong with the basics.
The Meal Itself
Food came out reasonably fast. Eggs were cooked just right, yolks still runny. Bacon was crispy, not burnt. Home fries were nicely seasoned, maybe could have been a bit crispier, but still good. The rye toast was properly toasted. It just hit the spot, you know? Filled me up.
Finished my coffee, paid the bill. It wasn’t anything groundbreaking, wasn’t gourmet food, but it was a solid, satisfying breakfast. Sometimes that’s all you need. Just a reliable place to get a good start to the day. Finding places like this takes a bit of looking sometimes, but usually worth it compared to the big chains.
