Okay, so this morning I was on a mission: find the best breakfast in Anchorage. I’ve heard whispers, seen some tantalizing pictures online, and frankly, my stomach was rumbling loud enough to wake the neighbors.

First, I hit up the internet. I looked and looked at so many reviews, I started to get a bit confused. Then, I picked a popular spot. let’s call it “The Griddle Master”. Sounded promising, right?
Off to a Rough Start…
I found the place okay, it looked so ordinary from the outside. I Walked in, and waited. And waited. Finally, someone sort of grunted in my direction and I got a table. The menu? Huge. Like, overwhelmingly huge. Pancakes, waffles, omelets, scrambles, those weird skillet things… I’m pretty sure I saw a kitchen sink option in there somewhere.
I finally flagged down a server – who looked like he’d rather be anywhere else – and ordered a classic: bacon, eggs, hash browns, and toast. Simple, right? You’d think.
The Waiting Game…Continues
Another long wait. I entertained myself by people-watching. There was a couple clearly on a first date (awkward!), a family with kids bouncing off the walls, and a guy in a full-on mountaineering outfit, which seemed a bit much for a pancake house.
Finally, the food arrived. And…meh. The bacon was crispy, I’ll give them that, but the eggs were kinda rubbery, the hash browns were more like lukewarm potato chunks, and the toast was, well, toast. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t…amazing.
Round Two: A New Hope
Disappointed but not defeated, I paid my bill (which, surprisingly, wasn’t cheap) and headed back out. I remembered a friend mentioning a smaller, place called “Sunrise Cafe.” I found it tucked away on a side street – cozy, cute, and smelled incredible.
Inside “Sunrise Cafe”
The vibe was totally different. Warm lighting, friendly chatter, and a menu that was just the right size. I ordered their special – the “Alaskan Scramble” – which had reindeer sausage, peppers, onions, cheese, and some kind of magical sauce.

And oh. My. Goodness.
The Verdict
- The eggs: Fluffy, perfectly cooked.
- The sausage: Savory, with a little kick.
- The veggies: Fresh, crisp-tender.
- That sauce: I need the recipe. Seriously.
I practically inhaled the whole thing. I even sopped up the last bits of sauce with a piece of their homemade sourdough toast. It was the kind of breakfast that makes you want to high-five the chef.
So, my quest for the best breakfast in Anchorage? It took a detour, but I found it. “Sunrise Cafe” – you have my heart (and my stomach).
