Alright, listen up, y’all! We’re gonna talk about feedin’ them young’uns when you’re out in the sticks, campin’ like we used to before all this cityfied stuff. You know, campin’ meals kids love. ‘Cause a hungry kid is a whiny kid, and nobody wants that on a nice trip.
First off, you gotta pack some grub that don’t need no cookin’. Think like this: jerky, that dried-up meat kids love to gnaw on. Trail mix, with all them nuts and little chocolate bits – that’s a winner. Dried fruit, too, like them shriveled-up apples and apricots. Good for energy, y’see. And bread, good hearty bread, the kind that sticks to your ribs. Cheese, kids love cheese, any kind will do. Peanut butter and jelly, slap it on that bread and you got a sandwich. If you got one of them fancy coolers, well then, you can bring more stuff. Sandwiches all ready made, some fruits and veggies, maybe some chicken salad or that tuna stuff. Yogurt with them crunchy granola bits, that’s healthy. And if you wanna get fancy, that caprese salad, with the tomatoes and cheese and that green stuff – basil, I think they call it. And chocolate, always bring chocolate, for bribin’ purposes, you know?
Now, when it comes to cookin’ over a fire, that’s where the real fun begins. But keep it simple, I say. Ain’t nobody got time for fancy-schmancy recipes when you’re out in the woods. Hot dogs, kids love hot dogs. Stick ’em on a stick and roast ’em over the fire. Marshmallows, too, for dessert. Get the ones that turn all gooey and brown. That’s what campin’s all about.
- Hot dogs on a stick: Easy peasy. Just poke a stick through ’em and hold ’em over the fire till they’re cooked. Don’t burn ’em, though.
- Foil pack meals: These are great ’cause you just throw everything in some foil, wrap it up, and toss it on the fire. Sausage and potatoes, chicken and veggies, whatever you got. Easy clean up, too, which is a bonus in my book.
- Campfire nachos: Get some tortilla chips, some cheese, and whatever toppings you like. Spread it all out in a foil pan and heat it up over the fire. Kids go crazy for nachos.
And don’t forget the sides! Camping side dishes are important, too. You can roast corn on the cob right in the husks, just throw it in the fire. Baked beans, straight from the can, heat ’em up in a pot. Potato salad, if you got that cooler, that’s always good. And fruit salad, somethin’ fresh and sweet to balance out all the heavy stuff.
Now, you might be thinkin’, “This all sounds like a lot of work.” Well, it ain’t rocket science, I tell ya. And the best part is, gettin’ the kids involved. Let ’em help with the cookin’, let ’em build the fire, heck, let ’em even wash the dishes if they’re old enough. It’s all part of the campin’ experience. And trust me, food tastes better when you eat it outside, under the stars, with the crickets chirpin’ and the fire cracklin’. It’s just good for the soul, y’know? And when them kids are full and happy, that’s the best feelin’ in the world. So go on, get out there and make some memories, and some good grub, too!
What You Need To Bring. Don’t forget the stuff to cook with! Pots and pans, if you’re fancy. A spatula to flip them burgers. Forks and spoons and such. And don’t forget plates and bowls! Paper ones are good, less washin’ up. And a can opener, for them beans! You don’t wanna be stuck with beans you can’t open. And somethin’ to start the fire, matches or a lighter. And a sharp knife, for cuttin’ stuff. And a big ol’ spoon for servin’. And napkins, lots of napkins, ’cause kids are messy. That’s about it. Just remember, keep it simple, keep it fun, and keep them bellies full. Happy campin’!

Then there is foil dinner recipes. Easy to make and easy to clean and kids can help wrap up the food. And there’s always amazing camping side dishes you’ll love, like beans and corn and stuff. So there you have it, feed those youngin’s good, and you’ll have a grand time.
