Well, I hear you folks talkin’ ’bout this sushi appetizer menu thing. Sounds fancy, huh? Sushi, that’s them little rice things with the fish, right? I seen ’em at the store, all wrapped up pretty. And appetizer, that just some small food before big food, right? That’s what I know. So, sushi appetizer, it must be some small food before them sushi things.
Now, we always had somethin’ to nibble on before a big meal back in my day. My mama, she’d always put out somethin’ to keep us young’uns from gettin’ too hungry. Keeps the peace, she’d say. So this appetizer thing, it ain’t nothin’ new, really. Just a different name, I reckon.
So, what kinda things go on this sushi appetizer menu? I reckon it got to be something small. Ain’t no use fillin’ up on the little stuff ‘fore the main event, right? Like when we used to have them potlucks down at the church. You gotta save room for the good stuff! That’s what I always say. You know, if you eat too many appetizers, you can’t eat sushi then. No, no, no.
I saw some folks mention them little fried dumplings. What they call ’em? Gyo… gyoza? Yeah, that’s it. Vegetable Gyoza, they say. Well, that sounds alright. Like a little pocket of somethin’ tasty. I reckon them would be good to munch on while you’re waitin’ for them sushi rolls.
- Them gyoza things, they sound interestin’. Like little fried pockets of vegetables, it is kinda like that.
- And somethin’ called tempura. I don’t know much about this one, but I guess it is fried too.
Then there’s this other thing, somethin’ called seaweed salad. Now, I ain’t never been one for eatin’ seaweed. Looks kinda slimy to me. But I suppose some folks like it. Maybe it’s an acquired taste, like them black licorice candies. Not for me, but some people love ’em.
And kimchi, that’s got a kick to it, right? Spicy. I like a little spice, but not too much. Just enough to wake up your taste buds, you know? A little goes a long way, that’s what I always say. Too much spice and you won’t taste nothin’ else!
They got somethin’ called edamame, too. Little green things. Look like beans. I think you can eat them with soy or somethin’. They seem healthy. My mama always said to eat your greens. Maybe these edamame things are the way to go.
Oh, and onigiri! Heard someone talkin’ ’bout that. Said it had chicken and other things in it. So it is like a ball filled with rice. Sounds like a good way to get full before that sushi comes. You gotta be careful with them appetizers, I tell ya. Don’t be fillin up on them and then no room for sushi, right?
And what is that? Something called sakana? They said it is food that goes with drink. Oh, it must be that kind of food people eat when they drink wine. I don’t drink a lot, just a little wine sometimes, maybe I should try that sakana thing. I will ask my daughter to buy some for me next time.
Now, these sushi appetizers, they sound like they could be a whole meal themselves! But I guess that’s the point, ain’t it? To get you all excited for the sushi. Like when you smell them pies bakin’ in the oven. You know somethin’ good is comin’, and you just can’t wait to dig in!
I reckon this sushi appetizer menu thing is just a way to make things a little more special. Like dressin’ up for Sunday church. You don’t need to, but it’s nice to make an effort sometimes. And if it gets people to try new things, well, that’s alright too, I suppose.
So, if you’re havin’ one of them sushi meals, maybe try a few of these appetizers. Just don’t go fillin’ up on ’em, you hear? Save room for the main event. That’s what I always say. And remember, a little somethin’ before the big meal is always a good idea. Just like mama used to say, it keeps the peace. And we all like a little peace and quiet sometimes. Ain’t that right?
